Rare Burmese Purple and Gold Striped Wool Bridal Skirt with 2 Bodices and Ornate Shoes circa 1890s
Exceptionally rare late 1800s Burmese wedding ensemble with 2 blouses, skirt and shoes with provenance.
Center button cotton blouse/bodice has tiny loop and knot closure, small slits at sides of wide cut waist- lace trim. Hand written in pencil inside is "Mrs. F.C. Sigler worked by Ma Hla May May 6 oz 6 1/2 6 1/2" VII Standard"
Off center cotton blouse has small knot/loop buttons off to side, also at neck and waist inside, small pocket hidden inside.Â
Skirt is hand woven wool with hand written note that says "Part of Burmese costume woven by the bride of now". Tube shape. No flaws.
Tiny purple suede and velvet shoes with curled upward toe, leather sole and heel trim. Gold accent on toe. Measures 9" long inside, 2 1/2" wide. Minor wear.Â
Both blouses have yellowing and stains- I have not washed them due to writing inside.Â
