Rare Crystal Beaded Bodice Candlight Silk Sleeveless Evening Gown circa 1960s John Kavanagh
An incredibly rare designer gown by Royal Couturier John Kavanagh.
1960s candlelight silk evening dress with mesh bodice overlay loaded with sequins, beads and crystals. Strapless crepe silk lining in bodice and skirt. Skirt in candlelight silk sculpted gently at waist. Zips up back- both outer and interior dresses have zippers. John Kavanagh worked under Balenciaga before creating his own design house and did many pieces for European royalty.
Now, the bad news. This was stored somewhere that it got wet and has a large, dark spot down right side of skirt. The interior lining also seems as though it may have shrunk. There is a modification (addition, really), to the back above the zippers. The gown may have had sleeves? That I cannot say.
That said, it is a very rare example of a designer who's work is incredible and hard to find. A talented seamstress could potentially remove the skirt and recreate it from the same type of fabric if desired. I wish it was in mint condition but sadly, it is not. Sold AS IS.
